About the challenge
The inaugural Raffles Girls' Math and Science Challenge aims to generate greater interest in Mathematics and Science amongst girls in Primary schools. It provides a platform for mathematically and scientifically inclined female students in Singapore to pit their skills and mental prowess against one another where they can demonstrate desired mental attitudes like an inquiring spirit and intellectual resilience.
This challenge consists of two sections: a quiz round and a buzzer round.
In the quiz round, three members will attempt a quiz to challenge their mathematical skills while the other three members will attempt a quiz that will challenge the breadth and depth of her scientific knowledge and recent developments in the scientific community. Both quizzes will last for an hour.
The top ten individual winners for each category (Maths and Science) will receive medals and attractive prizes.
The top five high performing teams in the quiz round will move on to the buzzer round. Do note that only a maximum of one team per school will move on to the buzzer round. This round tests students' mathematical and scientific knowledge.
The top three teams will receive prizes including trophies and attractive vouchers. More information may be found here.
This challenge is only open to primary 5 and 6 female pupils.
Students will join the challenge in teams of 6; each school may enter a maximum of two teams. As a result, every team may comprise of a mix of primary 5 and 6 pupils with no restrictions on the number of students from each level.
Each team will require 3 students allocated to take on the mathematical challenge and another 3 to take on the science challenge. As a whole, this will form a team that will take part in the buzzer round provided that the team passes the preliminary round.
